The Rogosin Institute
is an Upper East Side and not-for-profit medical research and health care organization, affiliated with NY-Presbyterian Hospital, and Weill Medical College of Cornell University.
Our Software Development team is committed to empowering scientists with cutting edge software and data management solutions to accelerate and facilitate bio-medical research and discovery. The member of this group will have a chance to participate in groundbreaking medical research activities and have direct impact on patient care, working hands-on with clinicians and scientists.
Oracle and Linux Administrator/Developer Tasks
Administration
•Install, upgrade, maintain, patch and monitor Oracle database server on Linux platform
•Create custom Linux scripts to manage Oracle Instances/Databases
•Ensure proper database back up and recovery (both user managed and automated)
•Manage and monitor user access to the database (privileges and roles)
•Maintain system security
•Monitor and optimize the performance of the database
•Identify, debug, troubleshoot database access and performance issues; contact Oracle Corporation for technical support
Development
•Design the database structure for an application
•Create database objects (tables, views, indexes, materialized views etc)
•Develop PL/SQL stored procedures to support applications (procedures, functions, packages, triggers)
•Write complex SQL statements to support applications
Requirements
•Bachelors’ degree in Computer Science with a minimum of 2 years of Oracle database administration experience on Unix/Linux platform. Oracle development experience is a plus.
•Experience installing, upgrading, maintaining and troubleshooting Oracle 9i, 10g or 11g database server
•Unix/Linux shell script programming skills to manage the Oracle database
•Various Oracle tools, ex. Dbca, Netca, and/or others
•Deep understanding and implementation experience of the relational database concepts.
•In-depth knowledge of SQL, experience with complex queries, and query optimization techniques
•Knowledge of data analysis and mining is a huge plus.
•Strong analytical and communication skills
•Hands-on experience with SQL, PL/SQL
Desirable experience:
•Linux administration, Oracle Enterprise Manager, RMAN
•MySQL, MS Excel/Access
•ColdFusion/JSP/ PHP, HTML, JavaScript, CSS, Java, J2EE, XML, Perl
•Statistical Software (SPSS, JMP, SigmaStat, R/S+, SAS).
